Meeting Beth Moore.

On Friday, late afternoon, I had a really cool opportunity to meet Beth Moore. Not in a one-on-one (sadly) but she was doing a book signing in Peachtree City so I jumped at the chance. Luckily, we have some sweet friends Tim and Malorie who stopped by the store that morning at 9am to get tickets for us. I would not have been able to go had it not been for them! (Thank you again, guys!)

Ok, so here's a run down of the afternoon. The signing took place from 4pm-6pm, so I arrived at about 3:30pm when we were all lining up. While the three of us were in line (Brad met us later for dinner) we were told that she wouldn't personalize books or really even talk with you but part of me knew she just wouldn't act that way. So as we are in line, a Books-A-Million employee asked if we wanted our books personalized and wrote the name on a post-it. I got my book addressed to 'Lanie Beth & Rowan'; and yes, Beth Moore knew our kid's name before anyone else. haha!

Anyway, so here's how it went down....

We saw her signing books as we were next in line. (Seriously, check out her hair. She is as beautiful, if not more, in person than on her books.)

Malorie (who is also pregnant-she is 22 weeks) went first.  When I walked up, Beth said, 'Oh!  Are ya'll pregnant friends!?'  I said we were and she reached out to hug me, (I would have never tried had she not reached out first!) and told me that she loved pregnant friends and that she had her second child mainly b/c her BFF was pregnant.  Isn't that so funny!

So we chatted for a minute and I told her that I read the LPM Blog and I was a 'Siesta'.  She loved that.

She also asked if Rowan was our baby's name, I said yes and she said that she so loved the name. That has to be bonus points or something, right?  We laughed.

Then, in an effort to say something to the effect of: "Thank you for all that you do in ministry.  Your work has had a profound impact on my life" which sounds alot better than "I want to be you", I think so at least. I did say this, it was all I could come up with...

" I just wanted you to know that because of you, this baby girl will have a mom with her head on straight and a heart for the Lord."

And even though I was not emotional in the least, I teared up at the thought of where I would be without the Lord and not to mention, what kind of home Rowan would grow up in if Brad and I did not have active relationships with the One who gives and sustains life. I didn't cry b/c of Beth Moore, she has just been a catalyst along the way. The power is in Christ!

And then she hugged me again and whispered in my ear, "That is the most powerful thing you could have said to me.  Being a mother is the most important job in the world.  It was an honor to meet you."

And it was indeed an honor to meet her as well. The following pictures are of another mother that I don't know but in the stroller laid a very special needs little girl.

Beth touched her sweet little face as if to pray a sentence prayer over her that very moment.

She then turned her attention to the other little girl acknowledging her and I'm sure, commenting on her cute shoes.

Then she looked at that little mom who seemed more than overwhelmed with her portion and honestly spoke life and truth to her.

And I know that all of this took place at a book signing. No big deal. But that woman, Beth Moore, is anointed. Sure there are those who are more educated, more prestigious, blah blah blah. But on a rainy Friday afternoon in Peachtree City, GA that woman ministered not just to me but to the hundreds of women there just by taking mere minutes to look them in the eye and help them feel validated.

It was a joy and an honor to meet her, but more than that it was so impressive to be able to visibly see the Lord being so active through one of his disciples. I loved being able to witness that and I pray that the Lord will use me and you like that too. Maybe not to the capacity of 'ol Beth, but in our own ways, strengths and talents.

What a beautiful thing to see women actively seeking the Father, desiring to know His plan for their life and living according to the Word.

What a great story! I am 6 weeks in to my first Beth Moore bible study, the Inheritance, and I think she is amazing. Thanks for sharing!

That was so sweet! I can't wait to get her new book! I thought you might want to read the story my friend Dawn wrote about meeting Beth Moore as well.

Hey Lanie Beth! I love reading your blog. It truly is very encouraging for me and I just want you to know that. What are some of your favorite Beth Moore books? I have never read any of her books and wondered where to start.

Hi Tara! So glad you like the blog! :) A few of my fav. Beth Moore books are 'Esther', 'Believing God' 'Jesus the One and Only'(it's a chapter book) and Psalms of Ascent. The one on Psalms came out last year I think and it a good first study. It's not as long (6 weeks) or quite as intesnse as some of her others. Just my opinion though! Let me know how you like them! I'm so wishing I got to meet Beth Moore, too! I'm going to the "So Long Insecurity" conference in April. Are you?

Lanie, that is simply the best! I'm so glad you had the opportunity to meet her and that she took the time to have a meaningful visit with everyone who stopped at her table. I like her a little more now than I did before reading this. Ha ha. Great story and great pictures. I cannot wait to meet Rowan!
